How to turn great ideas into great results

Strategy 6: Get a coach

I'm yet to meet anyone who wouldn't benefit from coaching! A great coach helps you develop clarity, identify what you want to change and how you can do that, then helps you hold yourself accountable to take action and get results.

This week, I'm looking at six common reasons that you might want to work with a coach, and what to do if you want to get a coach.

I'd love to hear about your experiences of coaching - what's worked for you? What hasn't? What do you think makes a great coach? Reply to this email, or connect with me on social media to start a conversation. You can find me on LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter.

What I've been reading:

I sometimes wish there were more hours in the day so I could spend more time reading! I've been enjoying some fantastic books recently, including:
  • ‘Company of One: Why Staying Small Is the Next Big Thing for Business', by Paul Jarvis – a great read for anyone who wants to, you guessed it, be a company of one.
  • ‘Soundtracks: The Surprising Solution to Overthinking’, by Jon Acuff – this was such a fun yet deep read. It’s literally transforming the way I think about myself and the world.
  • ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change’, by Stephen R. Covey – a classic that’s always worth a re-read. I have new “Aha!” moments with each reading.

Quote:

A coach is someone who sees beyond your limits and guides you to greatness.

Quick bite:

If you want to work on something right now, try self-coaching.
Get something to write on & two different coloured pens. With one pen, write a question a coach would ask. Use the other pen to write your response. Keep going until you've got what you need from the exercise.
If you get stuck for questions, imagine how you would coach a friend who was in your situation. Or google coaching questions - there are hundreds of ideas out there!
