Every new leader I’ve ever worked with has had a ‘Help, they put me in charge!’ moment.
They’ve been given the title of leader*, but no support or direction about how to lead people.
They’re left floundering around, trying to mimic people they think are good leaders, without any way of knowing whether they’re being successful until six or twelve months later, during their performance appraisal.
It’s a stupid approach, and we need to stop doing it!

Daria Williamson is a leadership expert, with over 20 years experiencing leading teams, and leading leaders.
