Every new leader I’ve ever worked with has had a ‘Help, they put me in charge!’ moment.
They’ve been given the title of leader*, but no support or direction about how to lead people.
They’re left floundering, trying to mimic people they think are good leaders, without any way to know if they’re being successful. If they’re lucky, they’ll get a performance review after a year, and find out if they’ve done OK or missed the mark entirely.
It’s a stupid approach, and we really need to stop doing it!
(* when I say ‘leader’, I also mean ‘manager’)
Go from "Help, they put me in charge!" to "I've got this!"
There is a much better way to grow leaders, and it doesn’t need years of study or being thrown in the deep end to learn from trial and error.
Daria Williamson’s forthcoming book, ‘Help, They Put Me In Charge!’ is full of practical, effective strategies and tools to take you from uncertainty and fear to competence and confidence.
The book, Daria’s second*, will be published in March 2027. Get on the mailing list here to be the first in the know with announcements and launch details.
And in the meantime, find out more about how Daria’s coaching and leadership development programmes are supporting leaders at all levels to grow, thrive, and deliver excellent results on repeat.
(* Daria’s first book is called ‘Unleash Your Awesome’ – it’s all about finding your Zone of Genius and creating the kind of life and work you’ve been dreaming of. You can find out more about it here).
About the author
Daria Williamson is a leadership development specialist, with over 20 years experience of leading teams and leading leaders.
Leaders often feel weighed down with responsibilities and worries. There’s no one they can talk to about what they’re going through.
When they work with Daria, they experience ‘The Exhale’: the moment they realise they aren’t broken, they aren’t behind, and they aren’t alone.
Daria has lived experience as a leader across a range of industries and organisational functions. And she has rigorous qualifications to back up her real-world knowledge. So she understands what makes business and people tick.
Her clients feel supported, seen, and inspired. They describe her approach as warm, practical, and perfectly tailored to their situation and strengths.
When you coach or train with Daria, you’ll leave your session feeling competent and confident, knowing how to tackle the challenges you face, and how to lead like YOU!
Daria works with leaders at all levels, from before they step into their first role, through to senior leadership teams in charge of business as diverse as a well-loved retail brand, a high-impact charity, and one of New Zealand’s most critical infrastructure organisations (she even has a pair of purple steel-cap boots to prove it!).
